"Mengingat sifat saya yang sangat kompetitif, saya tidak pernah berteman dengan saingan apa pun," lanjut Lorenzo.

Meski tidak memiliki hubungan yang harmonis sebagai sesama pembalap MotoGP, Lorenzo kagum kepada Simoncelli.

"Anda sejauh ini paling berani dari kami," ingat juara dunia MotoGP 3 kali ini.

"Saya selalu terkesan dengan cara Anda berhasil mengurangi jarak saat pengereman, karena ukuran Anda, mereka menyusul Anda di trek lurus." lanjutnya.

Marco Simoncelli fight dengan Jorge Lorenzo

Makanya, Lorenzo sangat sedih akan meninggalnya Simoncelli di tanggal 23 Oktober 2011.

Simoncelli menghembuskan napas terakhirnya di MotoGP Malaysia, akibat crash yang melibatkan dirinya dengan beberapa pembalap seperti Colin Edwards dan sahabatnya sendiri, Valentino Rossi.

"Saya tidak tertidur, banyak menangis dan saya belum pernah menangis untuk banyak orang, tetapi pada 23 Oktober 2011 yang akan saya ingat selamanya, saya menangis untuk Anda. Marco Simoncelli, abadi 58," tutup Lorenzo.

Anche se ieri non ce l’ho fatta, oggi voglio ricordare il #Sic. Ora avresti 33 anni, mi hai sempre preso un anno e mezzo.
